Charles had thrown himself in after Erik when the vortex had reached out to take his one time friend. It was not real and yet it was real, he could not explain it.
He caught Erik with his mind bringing them both back together as the phantom fire surrounding them tried to consume their forms. Only as he fought free did he realise his error. He had not seen two old men in his mind. In his head he always pictured them both from when they had first met.
Charles was standing and in his arms was a young man.
