Draco opened the box carefully, not sure what he was going to find and his mouth opened in shock. The little dragon sat on red satin and he knew it was made of Wizard's silver as soon as he looked at it. It was set with emeralds and sapphires along its back and wing as scales and the most delicate, greenest emeralds he had ever seen were set as its eyes.

His mother had only two pieces of such high quality in her extensive collection. Sitting down, Draco realised that his suitor was not only serious, but very serious indeed.

Harry made it a rule to always stay on very good terms with the house elves and he grinned to himself as he imagined the look on Draco's face when Draco found the first gift. Of course he knew Draco wouldn't play by the rules. That was half the appeal of Draco Malfoy right there, but Harry was determined not to be found out.

Being an ex-Auror, Harry was good at getting into places, but he was saving breaking-n-entering for another time. The first gift was a simple dragon pendant; obvious, but exquisitely expensive. He really hoped Draco liked it.

There were different forms for different times of year and they were very specific. It was winter, near the Solstice, so there would be twelve gifts to make thirteen with the original flower. The giver would attempt to keep themselves secret and the receiver was not supposed to try and figure anything out until after all the gifts had been presented, but Draco was a Slytherin. As he saw it, he had twelve chances to discover who his suitor was.

Hence it irked him when, after the school day, he found the first gift on the table in his rooms.

Harry watched Draco out of the corner of his eye. At first the Slytherin looked confused, but Harry saw the light dawn pretty quickly. The old forms were a pureblood thing, so, of course, Draco knew them. It was why Harry had researched everything. So far he'd tried to approach Draco a couple of times about romance, but Draco had always thought it was a joke.

As Harry pretended not to watch, Draco picked up the flower and fastened it to his robe. It was petals up and Harry did a mental victory dance; Draco was saying he was interested.

When Draco went to sit down at the staff table, the first thing he saw was the flower. Being the Herbology Professor, he knew a lot about plants, but not that one. Only when he picked it up did he perceive the fine silver veins in the petals and he realised why he had never seen one like it before.

No one had used the old courting forms for centuries, but there was a courting flower right in front of him. Someone was asking to woo him, someone clearly very serious about it. The first question, of course, was who.

Harry sneezed loudly.

It wasn't a new experience; he'd been sneezing since his trip to the library. What he was willing to go through for Draco bloody Malfoy was nobody's business, but he'd researched it all and now he knew how to approach things properly.

Stage one was complete on the desk in front of him; a perfect white flower of his own design. He had made it out of pure silver and then transfigured it into a real bloom so it would last forever. Now all he had to do was place the gift somewhere Draco would find it.
