So I was in Home Bargains this morning and they have the Thor 2 4'' figures in for £2.99 a pop. Not a price I have seen beaten anywhere :). These are all the figures they had in ours (click to see larger version) - so if you are after them I suggest you hightail it to your closest store (or they are selling them in random pairs on the website here).

How was I supposed to resist?

So I made my darling twin a little puzzle for Christmas to take advantage of her new obsession that I managed to pass along to her :). I made her a Loki scramble square as pictured below and I thought I'd share how I did it in case you're all feeling creative too.

If you would like to make the same one you can download the image below, just by clicking on it to see it full size. Otherwise you can use it as a pattern. It's based on the tropical frog Scramble Square pattern and I can promise it's hard to do because we had four people try it yesterday afternoon and no one could do it :).

MMOM1 - Boredom )
beren_writes: Loki in Jotun form with the word LOKI down the side (Avengers - Loki)
Okay, so I was watching Thor again (as one does) and had a thought.

In Thor there is a point when Volstagg is injured (frost bite) by being touched by a Jotun, the same way Loki happens to go blue.

Now I've read fanfic where any Jotun touch will do this, but I was wondering, is it just their use of ice as a weapon. Both Loki and Volstagg were being attacked at the time so it would make sense that that is what caused the reaction.

So basically my question is, which is correct:
1) contact with Jotun skin causes frost bite
2) Jotun can cause frost bite with their touch if they want to?

Given the fact that Laufey touches Odin while Odin is in Odin sleep, you could say it has to be 2), but that could have just been the healing field Odin was under countering it.

I'm over thinking this, aren't I ;)

Okay, so on Friday I innocently took a look a the end of a fic I had been eyeing for a while to see if I might actually like to read it. I'm the kind of person who doesn't care about spoilers and I like to know if a fic ends in a way I like :). The chapter I glanced at intrigued me, but then I realised it was actually the third story in a series, so off I went to look at story number 1.

This series is called Housemates by Coneycat and it's not what you'd call an obvious crossover. I love crossovers and even I eyed it as slightly odd before I read it.

First thing I have to say is: IT'S BRILLIANT!
The second thing I have to say is that you don't really need to know the fandoms either. Both are explained beautifully within the story and you learn all you need to know from the pages of the fic.
The third thing I have to say, this is Loki centric, if you're not a Loki fan this might not be for you, although the third is definitely epic enough to please most Avengers fans I think.

The first story is called Monsters and it's a Thor/Being Human (UK) crossover.

Monsters is set literally just after Loki's fall from the Bifrost, and rather than ending up trying to take over the world he lands in Annie, Mitchell and George's dustbins. Being "Monsters" themselves they think nothing of taking in a confused, lonely, somewhat unstable demi-god. This story is eleven chapters long and not short chapters either, but it had me clicking on each eagerly. Norse gods, vampires, werewolves and ghosts, what's not to love? Loki is set into the Being Human universe in the first story, using as much of that as possible until towards the end and it's beautifully done.

The second story is called The Loves and Hatreds of His Frightful Home and is a Thor/Being Human (UK)/Avengers crossover, with some Arthurian legend thrown in for good measure.

It is also brilliant and is 16 chapters of page turning goodness. George finds Steve (Captain America) wandering around in the forest after the full moon, confused and with parts of his memory missing. Loki recognises magic at work when he sees it and tries to contact Thor via Jane and manages to get the attention of SHIELD. Unfortunately the whole message didn't get through and they immediately suspect Loki of being the one who bespelled Steve. Things go downhill for a while and after that events get really complicated and exciting and I'm not going to put spoilers in :).

The third story is epic, it's Thor/Being Human/Avengers again. It's called Brother's Keeper and starts off with Loki simply vanishing as far as most are concerned where he's been grabbed by SHIELD and shoved in a cell with a magic inhibitor. That's about all the summary on AO3 says and I'd leave it there, but that kind of put me off, because I thought 37 chapters of angst, so I have to say, that's not what it's really about.

That is the catalyst for the story to begin and it left behind quite early (although not the consequences) and the rest of the story is an epic of plot and battles and espionage that spans at least four of the realms. It's superb.

This trilogy is everything I look for in fiction. The characters are wonderfully drawn, the situations well thought out. It is just so well done.

One WORD OF WARNING, however ;) ... I started reading this on Friday at about 4ish, I stopped for dinner, but after that only stopped reading when my eyes gave out. I realised when I took a break it was 2am. It was that engaging. I would have finished reading it on Sat, but I was at an all day Avengers prequel movie marathon with friends, so I had to wait until today. Make sure you have time when you sit down to read this, or be prepared to ration yourself :).

Speculoos on crusty white bread with lashing of (light) butter like spread ... heaven.

Also, James McAvoy is adorable and hilarious. After his antics at the Empire Awards I find myself giggling at the most random moments just from thinking about it. In case you missed it, when asked about X-men FC and the chemistry between himself and Michael Fassbender, his response was (and I kid you not): "We had sex every morning and that helped, y'know."

Empire did not manage to produce a photo of the two together, however, well unless they plan on springing it on us at a later date.

James also needs Tom Hiddleston to teach him how to tie a tie - see.

And no, that wasn't just a feeble excuse to post pictures of two of my favourite actors ... not at all ;).

For those who also missed it, Tom Hiddleston won Best Male Newcomer at the Empire Awards and then proceeded to apologise for being the oldest nominee in his acceptance speech. He really is adorable, just like James.

I'm supposed to be working on the cover for my new short story, but I might actually be making a Muppet Avengers poster with Loki bang in the middle. This is all Tom Hiddleston's fault. I do, however, look on it as practising my Photoshop skills and that's the excuse I'm sticking to. Everyone else can see Miss Piggy as Black Widow, right?

Wow, I was having weird dreams last night. Something to do with a doctors office I think and then going somewhere else and I'm pretty sure there was a chase of some kind. The details are murky now. However, Tom Hiddleston was in it, so I count it as a win :D.

I keep eyeing the Captain America Blu-ray on Amazon. I already caved and bought the Thor one. The problem with CA was I put it on my wishlist before Christmas and it disappeared off it, but I never got it. So I'm wondering if something went wrong, or if I have a relation out there I only see once a year who will suddenly produce it out of the blue (this has happened before - I have two copies of some DVDs to prove it :)). I may just go 'screw it' and buy it anyway next month, because my mummy is giving me an Amazon voucher for Easter - patience, thy name is not Tasha! ;)

For those who missed it yesterday, my new book Cat's Creation Cat's Creation by Natasha Duncan-Drake is out. It's the sequel to Cat's Call Cat's Call by Natasha Duncan-Drake and it's novel length (~68K), YA, contemporary fantasy. Lots of magic and adventure for all ages to enjoy.
